Irish Stout Wheaten Bread

With St Patrick’s Day just around the corner we thought we’d share this traditional recipe with you to enjoy!


  • 500g whole meal flour
  • 30g self-raising flour
  • 30g porridge oats
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of sugar
  • 1 tsp of bicarbonate of soda
  • 15g butter
  • 1/2 pint buttermilk
  • 1/2 pint stout



  • Place all dry ingredients into a mixing bowl and mix well.
  • Now gently heat buttermilk, butter & stout.
  • Cool slightly and slowly add to dry ingredients.
  • In a loaf tin butter well & cover butter with oats.
  • Bake at 200 C for 1 hour.
